Informatics Engineer. Student of Master’s Degree in Innovation and Research in Informatics, specialization on Data Science. Junior Researcher with special interest on Data Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence fields.
Interests: Data science, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Systems, metaheuristics, parallelism, evolutionary programming, high performance computing, programming languages, cloud computing, system administration.
In September 2017 I started working in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spanish National Supercomputing Center, which hosts MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world) as a Research Scientist in the Life Sciences department, with a Data Scientist position and Research Engineer level, involved in some European and national projects.
In June 2017 I was selected for a summer internship as software developer in the Orekit/Rugged project (https://www.orekit.org/forge/projects/socis-2017-rugged), in the frame of the SOCIS 2017 program organized by the European Space Agency.
Rugged provides the tools to model any type of sensors rigorously/physically, to process all the spacecraft navigation data (position, velocity and attitude), and to take into account Digital Elevation Models (DEM) to represent the surface of the Earth. It is on this last point that Rugged gets its name from; Rugged deals with rugged terrains. Rugged relies on Orekit for all what concerns transformations between coordinate systems (inertial/terrestrial) and orbital data but what Rugged brings on top of Orekit, is the capacity to deal with the DEM. Rugged is used for image processing of the Sentinel 2 mission in the Copernicus program at European Space Agency (ESA) for Earth observation.
In July 2017 I was selected as a Research Intern at the Computing Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, with a grant from the European Union, specifically from the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE), where Top 20 students from all over Europe are selected to participate. Starting on July 3rd with a Training Week on the IT4I Supercomputing Center (http://www.it4i.cz/?lang=en) and moving to Slovakia to work on the project until 28 of August. Working with MPI, OpenMP, GPI-2 (GASPI), C++, Apache Spark, HDFS and Scala.
In December 2016, I started my research activity, as a Research Intern in the Intelligent Computing Group, in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence area, for the Computer Systems department, under the tutelage of PhD. J. Marcos Moreno Vega, funded by a grant of the Spanish Ministry of Education.
During this time, I was researching in Data Science and Machine Learning for urban traffic flow prediction, working with Apache Spark MLlib.
During this research internship, I worked in massive data analysis, specifically the goal was the RDF processing of the DBpedia through Big Data solutions to discover relations between concepts.
The slides I used to show the results of the month of work are available here.
During the last quarter of 2016, I taught some official small courses at the university, which are:
- Graphical applications development using QT (2 ECTS)
- Introduction to programming in Java (2 ECTS)
- Graphical interfaces with Java 8 and JavaFX (2 ECTS)
